Family spotlight

April was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and has two young children. She talks about the impact of her diagnosis and how the foundation was able to support:

“When being diagnosed in March 2022, I had no idea of the impact it was going to have on my family’s life. I have two small children, 5 and 4, and although I knew I would have different medicine that would make me unwell, I had no clue about the amount of emergency surgeries I would need and the extra hospital trips. This had such a huge impact on the children.

When I came across The Chris Aked Foundation, they offered to arrange a trip away for the family and my children asked if there was any way we could go to Peppa Pig World. This was all sorted for us, which included an overnight stay so that we didn't have to try and fit in travelling as well as the park. Being able to have a couple of days as a family, watching the children just be happy and care free, meant so much to myself and my husband. Those who go through Cancer will also understand the financial impact it can have as a family, so to be able to see the kids so happy and not have to stress that we have used money we may need throughout my treatment made the trip even more special.

The Chris Aked Foundation also sent us a family movie night kit at home which included some treats, a voucher for a movie, puzzles and again, it allowed us that quality family time that we have missed out on recently.

I don't think I can say thank you enough for the memories this foundation has allowed us to create.”
